Who made your mobile phone? Hint: It's not a robot.

A recent story on This American Life brought to light some very interesting questions that most of us never think of: Where does our technology come from? When one thinks long and hard about this, the most frequent answer is...China. And yes, as is revealed in this fascinating story, our stuff- an alarming amount of our stuff- is made in China.

If you're like me, or Mike Daisey, the narrator of this disturbing tale, you'd assumed that our iPhones, Kindles, and Xboxes were all produced on some futuristic production line, with robots taking turns sautering together pieces and parts to create a sleek, high-tech product. However, Daisey chose to explore exactly where our stuff comes from by actually traveling to China- and that's were he uncovered a city immersed in a cloud of techno-waste, where pre-teen workers work twenty-hour shifts and unionizing is an unspoken sin.
